What to Expect From Your First Personal Training Session

What to Expect From Your First Personal Training Session

Personal training could be your introduction to physical fitness. Whether you want to be stronger or more agile, your personal trainer develops a program based on your goals.

At neXendo Wellness in Long Island City and Murray Hill, New York, internist Anastasios Manessis, MD, leads a team of experienced personal trainers and specialists dedicated to improving your health.

One-on-one personal training empowers you to exercise more mindfully and with improved results. Here’s what you can expect from your first personal training session at neXendo Wellness:

Your personal trainer wants to get to know more about you. Specifically, we’re curious about what you’d like to get from personal training. Even if you don’t have specific goals, expect an in-depth discussion about your lifestyle, fitness, and habits.

Tell us if you want to improve:

We can tailor your workout plans according to your goals and needs. Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).

Assessing your current abilities

A physical fitness assessment is the next step in your first personal training session. It typically starts with a health questionnaire and discussion. Tell us about past injuries and your health history.

We will measure your weight, height, and body fat percentage. neXendo Wellness has a state-of-the-art Seca™ scale for measuring body composition, which helps us understand your muscle-to-fat ratio.

Next, you’ll go through a series of abilities tests, including:

Depending on your goals and starting point, we might also conduct performance tests. This is relevant if you intend to participate in a race or competition, like a marathon.

Warming up and working out

Once the initial evaluation is complete, we help you warm up for exercise. Warming up involves dynamic stretches and light cardio to get your blood pumping. Warmups are important because they prepare your muscles for exercise and reduce injury risk.

Next is your workout session. Based on the goals you expressed during your discussion, we guide you through a series of exercises. We show you the proper form and technique for each movement.

Your workout may include a combination of flexibility exercises, strength training, and cardiovascular activities (e.g., running or cycling). It’s all based on your ability level, so don’t worry about your session being too difficult.
