Frequently Asked Questions
Metabolic testing is an assessment of your body’s metabolism, which is the process of converting the calories from food into energy for daily bodily functions. The speed of your metabolism influences how many calories your body burns throughout the day, even when you’re at rest. By measuring metabolic rates, our wellness specialists can create customized meal plans, exercise programs, and weight management strategies that support your specific health and wellness goals.
At neXendo Wellness, we offer two primary types of metabolic testing:
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Test
This test measures how many calories your body burns while at rest, providing insights into your metabolic efficiency. The RMR test factors in your body size, muscle-to-fat ratio, hormone levels, and genetics. It typically takes 10-15 minutes and involves either breathing into a mouthpiece or reclining under a plastic hood with a tube to monitor your metabolic activity.Maximum Volume of Oxygen (VO2 Max) Test
This test is performed while doing aerobic exercise such as running, walking, or biking. As you increase the intensity of the exercise, you breathe into a mask, allowing the test to analyze the amount of oxygen you inhale and the carbon dioxide you exhale. VO2 max testing helps estimate how many calories you burn during exercise and at rest, aiding in the development of targeted fitness plans.
During your RMR (resting metabolic rate) test, you will be asked to follow specific protocols, such as avoiding exercise, caffeine, food, and stimulants beforehand to ensure you’re in a rested state. You will then sit in a comfortable position and breathe into a mouthpiece for 10-15 minutes.
Once the test is completed, your results will be analyzed by a registered dietitian or wellness specialist who will design a personalized nutrition, weight loss, or exercise plan tailored to your needs and lifestyle. Your provider will also offer follow-up appointments in-person or virtually to track your progress, adjusting your plans as necessary for optimal results.
Metabolic testing provides essential insights into your calorie-burning potential, which is crucial for creating effective weight management and fitness plans. By understanding your resting metabolic rate and VO2 max, your wellness specialist can develop personalized recommendations that:
- Help you manage healthy weight loss
- Improve your exercise performance
- Balance your nutrition for better energy
- Support your overall health and wellness goals
Knowing your metabolic rate allows for more precise diet and exercise prescriptions, helping you achieve better, more sustainable results.
To ensure accurate results, we recommend that you follow these steps prior to your RMR test:
- Avoid exercise for at least 12 hours before the test
- Do not consume food or beverages (except water) for 4-6 hours before the test
- Avoid caffeine, stimulants, and alcohol for 12 hours prior
- Wear comfortable clothing and be ready to sit in a relaxed position during the test
Our team will provide detailed instructions when you book your test to ensure you’re properly prepared.
Once the test results are reviewed, your neXendo Wellness specialist will create a personalized plan for you based on your metabolic data. This plan will include tailored dietary recommendations, exercise strategies, and weight loss goals designed specifically for your metabolism and health objectives. You’ll also receive regular follow-up consultations to monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure you stay on track.
